French Level One

This introduction to French conversation provides students with the ability to use the language in key survival situations. The focus is on speaking and listening only.  It can also function as a refresher course for those using French in business or travel.  This fun, interactive class uses video clips, basic conversation, and practical tips, emphasizing French basics, speaking skills and acquiring vocabulary.  Students need to purchase “French Phrasebook”, publisher Lonely Planet, ISBN 1-86450-152-9 and "French in 10 Minutes a Day" ISBN 978-1-931873-02-4.for approx. total of $16 and  available on-line and through many bookstores)

Fee: $160 (Plus purchase of phrasebook and text book on own.)

French: Beyond Beginners- Fun and Games to Master Your Skills

New Course

Are you a Francophile?  If you have French conversation background, this refreshing class will provide a fun, but structured, environment for improving your skills.  We’ll play games, practice dictation, watch and critique French films, listen to French music, read French literature, and focus on French customs.

Fee: $80 (students can bring their own French books to share with class)

Italian- Beginner Conversation

Learn basic conversational Italian using a “grouping” method of learning key verbs, nouns, and other vocabulary words.  Class emphasizes student participation with conversation and plenty of cultural background.  Will use a CD and Workbook developed to teach Italian available from instructor at cost of approximately $25 (not mandatory to take the course).

Fee: $110 (Plus optional $25 book fee)

Italian- Intermediate Conversation

For students with basic Italian conversational skills, this class will build understanding of the language.  We’ll use a “grouping” method of learning key Italian verbs, nouns, and other vocabulary words.  Class will cover speaking with correct pronunciation, listening and understanding, writing, and the culture and behavioral patterns of the Italian people.  Will use a CD and Workbook available from instructor at cost of approximately $25 (not be mandatory to take the course).

Mandarin Chinese- How to Learn On-line

New Course

There’s a host of on-line resources and other tools that can help you learn basic Mandarin Chinese at home.  We’ll walk through Chinese on-line learning paths to provide some meaningful, sequential direction to structure your own program to learn simple conversational skills in Mandarin Chinese.  Feel free to bring your laptops.  Great class to take as a family!

Sign Language for Beginners

Sign Language is a clever, suprising and creative language, incorporating gestures, facial expression and a bit of mime. Students will learn to make friendly conversation about everyday life using approximately 250 vocabulary words. Acquisition of vocabulary and conversational fluency is reinforced with the use of sentence practice and short signed conversations and some songs. Great fun in an entertaining, no-pressure environment!

Fee: $90 (Students are recommended to select and purchase a Sign Language Dictionary)

Spanish- for Beginners and Beyond

New Course

This twice weekly fun and interactive session will give you the opportunity to learn and practice Spanish conversation for work and travel.  Starting with greetings, present tense, descriptions, and basic sentences, then build on your skills.  We’ll cover the fundamental structures of Spanish grammar, linguistic differences among Spanish speaking cultures, and more than 1,500 words used regularly in the Spanish language.  Instructor will guide you with grammar, colloquial expressions, tenses, and pronunciation.

Students should purchase a phrase book and Spanish-English dictionary of their choice.

Fee: $125
